About the Owner
Angelina Valesco has been practicing yoga for 16 years and has been a certified instructor for 9 years. Angelina's Vinyasa practice has an emphasis on finding strength by holding the poses. She offers many modifications for students and provides many verbal cues so that everyone can get the most out of each class. Angelina's Pilates classes are high-energy and focuses on building core strength. Her Gentle Yoga classes are the perfect fit for seniors.
When Angelina first began her journey towards fitness, she took a Yoga class and it changed her life. After practicing as a student for several years, Angelina went through the certification process to become a Yoga Teacher and a Pilates Instructor. Leaving the corporate world behind, Angelina opened Blissful Energy Yoga Center in 2006.
Working with others on their journey to fitness has become her full-time passion. She offers private consultations and sessions for those who prefer individual attention. Offering support for others on their journey toward fitness, Angelina also does weight loss coaching. With her unique blend of personal experience and professional training, she is the perfect motivator for your weight loss journey. Just like Brett Hoebel on Biggest Loser, Angelina is a Beachbody Coach so she can help more people win their weight loss journey and find their way to fitness.
Angelina is also a motivational speaker and published author and has covered topics such as: Yoga for Arthritis, Managing Stress and Anxiety through Yoga, and My Weight Loss and Fitness Journey. Angelina enjoys cycling, hiking, and running when she's not at the studio.
Annabelle Valesco is our friendly face when you walk into the studio. She has been practicing yoga for two years and loves to teach kids yoga. She has received her Yoga Certification but is currently taking time off from teaching. She is just beginning her journey as an instructor. She is also our front desk receptionist and would love to answer your questions if you
call the studio.
If she isn't working at the studio, she is running her "Annie the Nanny" business and spending time with her fiance. She is having lots of fun planning her 2014 wedding!!
Sarah started as a student at Blissful Energy in 2010 after years of
and gym yoga classes. The studio environment here deepened her love for
the practice and it inspired her to become a Certified Yoga Teacher in
2011. She enjoys sharing the physical and mental strength that yoga can
bring to a practice, as well as everyday life. She also loves how yoga
can bring new challenges: from learning to listening to your body and
accepting your practice how it is in that present moment to the
continual ability to learn and work toward new poses and modifications
in your practice.
If Sarah is not at the studio she is probably at her other job slinging coffee,
off exploring new restaurants, trails, or sights of Portland with
friends, or spending time at home baking. Sarah moved to Portland about 4
years ago from Indiana (and Pennsylvania before that and Ohio before
that!). Never felt more at home!
Nila Tiwari Holcombe
Nila arrived at her first yoga class, back in 2008 in Canada,
with loose hips, incredibly tight hamstrings and an open mind to the
possibilities of yoga to create balance in body and mind. After a few
years of contemplation (stretching, strengthening, balancing) moving to
Portland and developing a regular practice, Nila's focus shifted towards
a journey to become a yoga teacher. Nila is now an RYT-200 (Registered
Yoga Teacher) teaching at Blissful Energy since 2012. She enjoys
teaching yoga, gentle yoga and cardio fusion classes at the studio. Nila
loves the energy of people united in practice and always feels it an
honour to help students through their own yoga journeys. Though Nila
began yoga as a natural extension to her 25 years experience teaching
and performing Bharatanatyam (an East Indian classical dance style,
which has roots in the yoga tradition and is an original form of Natya
Yoga), after moving to Portland the practice of yoga has been her main
Continuing on her learning path, Nila is currently training for her
RYT-500 Hr (Registered Yoga Teacher) designation and has completed her
RCYT (Registered Children's Yoga Teacher) teacher training. When she
isn't at the studio or teacher training, Nila enjoys spending time with
her three energetic young sons, hiking, biking and exploring Portland.
John first took a Yoga class at college in 1977 because he
needed a PE credit! In between family and raising three children, and
his work as an electrical engineer, he practiced off and on until the
mid 90s. John's practice has became more regular since then, covering
many styles of Yoga: Hatha, Iyengar, Astanga, Bikram, Mysore, Yin, and
Vinyasa. Starting in Summer 2012, John started teaching a weekly
lunchtime class for interested co-workers at his workplace, partly to
gain experience while doing his teacher training, and partly to bring a
little mid-day relief to folks who sit at a desk all day. Those classes
continue today, incorporating both Hatha and Yin styles. In 2012 he
studied teaching Vinyasa Yoga with Sarah Trelease at Yoga Bhoga in
Portland, and has recently taken Julie Gudmestad's Anatomy Awareness in
Asana Workshop. Presently at Blissful Energy he teaches Yin Yoga on
Tuesday evenings, and fills in other classes from time to time.
Why does John keep coming back to Yoga? First, because of the
feeling of awareness Yoga provides. Second, because he feels that
practicing, and especially teaching, makes the world a better place.
Aside from Yoga, John enjoys spending time with his wife Randi, walking the dogs, and he's an active model railroader.
